Can I get food stamps in florida if I am unemployed, live with my elderly parents and pay my own bills?

geenicegal asked:

I am an elder caregiver (dad had a stroke and mom has copd), I moved in and I take care of them 24/7. I pay my own bills using my IRA and am now out of money. I have had no medical coverage for 8 years. Am I eligible to claim myself as my own household even though I live with them and pay my own bills (and some of theirs).

Yes You should be able to get help and you should be able to get some sort of medical assistance from medicare. Depends on your parents age. Best to contact and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Yes as long as you are over 22 years old you can be a separate household. You should also try applying for IHSS or In Home Supportive Services. I’m not sure where you apply for it out there in Florida so ask the food stamp office or the Social Security office. IHSS pays you to take care of your disabled parents or other disabled persons.
