$3.5 TRILLION for health care? Isn’t this a bit much?

Spock (rhp) asked:

Thursday, June 25th — first estimates of the cost of the House of Representative’s health care bill is $3.5 TRILLION over 10 years. [investors.com -- today]

Isn’t this just a tad excessive?

In fact, given that there are only about 10 million hard core uninsured Americans [see investors.com yesterday and Larry Elder's Monday column for calculations], we could buy each of them a policy costing 125% of the average worker’s policy cost [$8,000 times 125% = $10,000 per] for ‘only’ $1 trillion for all 10 years.

What is in this bill? Free health care for all illegal immigrants?

Um — must be more than that, since covering all illegal immigrants would only cost another $1 trillion or so.

How about free care for everyone who chooses to not buy their own, despite having what seems to be enough money?

That’ll do it — that would cost another $2 trillion or so.

***
Now, I don’t know about you — but I’m not interested in paying 50% more in income taxes to cover illegal immigrants and people who could afford to buy their own health insurance but prefer to buy chrome rims and oversize tires for their ride or the latest iPod and premium ‘4G’ cell service.

How about we scrap this whole idea and go back to square one??

Make health care more efficient and LOWER costs for everyone, not higher cost for everyone and socialist size taxes!!
tribeca… more efficient. Start with honest pricing. Shopping for health care has to be done in advance of need. But, the field is so complex that you can’t effectively shop, can you? (even if you don’t need the service now, as is frequently the case.)

You need a price gauge. It has to be uniform [same price for everyone] so the clerks can tell you what it is easily and quickly. I recommend a uniform percentage of the Medicare allowed’ cost. Each provider would settle on some percentage like 110% and then you could shop by asking what the doctor’s or hospital’s rates are.

Now you have power — if you’re referred to a specialist who wants 125% of the Medicare price — shop for someone else.

sense? so why does no state require this? Legislators are maybe in the pockets of the physicians and hospitals?
ajsnskoo …. did you see the same poll I saw? something like 58% of respondents said they’d be for providing health insurance to everyone who doesn’t have it and estimated their cost at ten dollars a month more. TEN DOLLARS !!

America’s average health care bill now is $625 a month [7500 per year]. If there really were 52 million [latest wrong estimate] who needed it, out of 308 million total population, the required added monthly payment by all the 256 million who have insurance now would be 127 dollars and that 127 dollars includes all the 82 million who have Medicare or Medicaid.

now, if we leave out any price increase to those 82 million, only 174 million have private insurance and covering the 52 million without jumps to $187 a month more.

That’s only 19 TIMES the amount the public thinks this should cost.

NINETEEN TIMES.

How do you propose making health care more efficient and lowering costs for everyone? If you can actually answer that question then you might have a viable health care reform plan. Keep in mind that some individuals have pre-existing conditions and are not accepted for health insurance coverage.

And this surprises people?? I kept pointing out to people during the election that countries who have universal healthcare pay income taxes in excess of 50%, and asked them how Obama and the Dems were going to pay for this idea without taxing us to death? The answer I typically got was he’ll come up with something that won’t cost us or I’m willing to pay A LITTLE more to make sure everyone has insurance. Well, as expected, this program would cost us A LOT more. None of his supporters that I know asked the questions of how these programs would be paid for…they just kept chanting, we want change. Well folks, be careful what you ask for…you may not like what that change is going to cost each and every one of us.

You bet it is. Why should the tax payers shell out $3.5 trillion for the health of U.S. citizens over 10 years when we could immediately add that money to the $13.6 trillion, and counting, that has so far gone to bail out Wall Street’s super rich and their parties, bonuses, hedge funds and golden parachutes? That was sarcasm. It’s long passed time the U.S. had a completely socialized health care system like every other advanced nation on the planet. All forms of private insurance are nothing more than legalized protection rackets and pure evil.

if i was to answer now, and be totally honest, i would have a swat team bashing down my door at 0300 tomorrow morning.

if i quoted Thomas Jefferson, as i would like to at this time, the same thing would happen.

think about it - Thomas Jefferson’s words are a threat to the Powers that be.

May i quote Thomas Aquinas, and not get killed by a swat team ?

When the best becomes corrupted, it becomes the worst.

This nation is done with , as far as being a free and independent nation. That is, individual PROPERTY OWNERS are NOT secure in their rights.

Health care - that is, Socialized Medicine, is just the symptom of our Nation’s woes. The disease is that Most of us are Willful Slaves to the State.

If you are willing to send your Children to the State to be indoctrinated according to its world view, then, by definition, you are a Willful Slave to the State. Just ask the Pagan Romans, and the Soviets. To deny this is to be a willful slave.

Don’t ask your friend , your neighbor or relative, those who have that really great Civil Servant’s job if they agree. It will make them feel angry at you; angry for exposing the parasitic nature of their livelihood.

and that is the source of our nations demise. our next door neighbors and relatives.

    Good by , willful slaves.

$3.5 TRILLION for the 700 doctors in your town alone? That doesn’t sound excessive.
