Medicaid is paid by each individual state. the states are
in big kaka now and there is not enough money in the
state budget to cover these costs. therefore the patient
now has to cover a portion of the costs.

It is because her Prescription Drug plan changed it's rules and is charging her now. It has happened a lot with different plans. What she would have to do it to contact her case manager and ask to change her prescription drug plan to a different one where she would not have to pay. Or if she has a different MMA person she can contact that person directly and aks to make a change. Her co-payment for prescription drugs is not related to her income.

This seems to be a big surprise to everybody, why, I've been paying for years. Starting out at the first of the year I have to pay a deductible of $300.00 on prescriptions. This takes until about June to get caught up. In the meantime I have to pay full price for all my drugs.
I have Silver Script, my wife is on AArp and she gets her co-pay all the time for $2.00 per script. I am changing over right now.

You have to be very careful out there, your going to get a royal if not.

I'm one of those senior citizens who understands what you are saying. I am paying more for my Medicare and more for my supplemental insurance and getting less coverage...paying more for my meds, etc. and I am in Oregon. I think it is the same all over our country. I think there is some kind of plan, and I am sorry I can't think of it, that you can get medicines your mom needs cheaper. I wish I could think of what it was, but have seen the advertisement on TV. There is a lady riding a bus and talking about how she can't afford her medicines any more and she needed help with her prescriptions...the drug companies were able to help her. I am so sorry that I can't remember what it was. I am having what I call a brain fog right now...one of those bennies we sometimes get as we age when we have serious health problems like mine. I wonder if you could find it by typing in free meds or medications for low income senior citizens or those on disability? Maybe you could try the AARP website. I'm 67, and my mom is 87 and she is on limited income and has to pay for some prescriptions too. I hope you find the answer here on Y/A as there are a lot of knowledgable and kind people that will have advice for you.

If Evercare was bought through AARP, that is the problem. AARP is the most expensive.

Did you vote for change ? Ask your local AARP Chapter. They should have an explanation that is well founded and understood.
