What kinds of questions would be inappropriate on this senior citizens site?

Lona asked:

AND WHAT QUESTIONS ARE APPROPRIATE FOR THE OLD FOLKS?
Have you noticed some people want to determine which questions are right for us and which are not ok for us?
I as a senior, I am interested in all of our efforts to come up with questions
I’M THINKING OF THE COMMENTS THAT ASK WHY A CERTAIN QUESTION IS ON THIS SITE.
I think the senior site is for asking questions, and this can be on any subject, when we want a senior citizen’s perspective of the situation.
Jan….shame on you…lol

Bravo! The questions that are appropriate for us are the same questions that are appropriate to other groups. As long as they are done respectfully and with a sense of sincere interest and understanding. After all, we all can learn from each other. Let’s do it in a way that benefits us seniors and others alike.

I think this comes from the generalization that all old people came from the Victorian age and don’t really know how things are right now. Hey people, young and old. We are all people just like you are.

Any direct question about death, dieing, current age, health, current activities and personal financial questions I feel would be inappropriate. If I volunteer this information then that is different.
    And what Gladys stated !

The ones that talk about high school seniors and h. school pranks. The young ‘uns, they are lost and confused, bless their little hearts.

Well personally I feel that senior citizens have the same rights as everyone else. You can ask whatever question that you like.

I only have issues with rude remarks made about any group of people
As far as what goes, I am interested in many thing, so anything goes.
Example, I am interested in dating but do not want to ask in relationships Why? it is mostly young people there who would not have my same concerns or insight as this group would.

u are so right ,seniors is not just about arthritis, ulcers, and incontinence .any thing we choose to ask or answer is appropriate.
and we are quite capable to make that choice ourselves.
ps the best one was ‘why do seniors not want to use computers ‘ hahahaaaahaa!!

So you think Answers should not be divided up in to different categories? Perhaps you should look around answers. I spend a great deal of time in zoology, biology, environment and conservation. The vast majority of questions in those categories are generally specific to the topic. Why shouldn’t that be true of Senior Citizens? The ideal questions would be questions relating to senior citizen issues.

Unfortunately, many questions posted here are not pertinent to the category. There is a cliche within this category. This cliche has turn the forum in to a chat room. This cliche think they control which questions are acceptable. That is not what Yahoo had in mind when they devised Answers. Yahoo has places for folks that wish to get together and chat. It is pretty simple, just follow the rules.

I see people here complaining about Yahoo doing this or that. Well it is not Yahoo that removes questions or answers. It is people. Some of the people that share your cliche, trolls and punks.

I like the variety of questions that are here. We don’t find that in every category.
I can easily read and not answer a question for a variety of reasons, may not have an answer or anything to contribute and I have learned to just look around more. I do go to many other categories as well.
There is more consistancy here and I can tell a Q will be fun to answer by who has posted it as well as others that I never understand or care to enter into debate about.
I dislike political debates anymore so I avoid them.
But there are others that do and they should be allowed to ask them.
    It is an open forum.

I have no problem answering any question presented if that is what I want to do. No one is forcing me. If I think it is inappropriate, then I will ignore it. I don’t care if the youngsters ask or answer questions. This is a public forum and open to everyone.

The only thing I would suggest is for everyone to be civil. No rudeness and no flaming. We can agree to disagree without being disagreeable.

    Peace.

An appropriate question would be anything from remember when, do you remember, what would you do with your elderly family member, neighbor, friend, what are these med’s, should I go to the Dr, what’s the more absorbent diaper, how do I keep this old people smell away, have you had this surgery,

Inappropriate would be anything with common sense, funny, or thought provoking.

Questions that are racist, full of hate, or being used to promote a political or religious belief don’t belong here. Other than that, most questions are welcome even from the young ones who think this area is for seniors in high school. We all were in high school once, or know someone who is and can remember what it was like. If a question requires expert information, such as something medical or scientific, it should be directed to that area or a doctor. Just because Yahoo may have originally been intended for a specific purpose, doesn’t mean that it can never change, or alter, unlike Jim.
