There is a huge senior citizens apartment building where she lives. She can only work a couple of hours a day because of her children. She wants to know if seniors would be interested in having groceries delivered to them. The problem is she doesn’t know how to charge them for it. Is it done by the amount of groceries or a flat rate and how much.

   Tell your daughter to talk directly with the manager at the senior citizens apartment building in her neighborhood. Go there in person, without her children in tow, and give the manager some flyers or business cards with her name, hours available and fees for doing the shopping. It might be worthwhile to talk with a grocery store manager and see if there have been requests for her type of shopping service.

   If I was doing it my first calculation would be my own costs for using my car and what my time is worth. Perhaps a mileage fee based on destinations? Also, she must decide if she will operate cash only or what payment method she will use for the purchases at the stores. I know I wouldn’t give my cash to a complete stranger then trust her to go do my shopping. I would pay her after she brought the goods to my door.

   Miz D’s answer was great. Your daughter may also consider that she may have to be bonded, which can be a considerable expense.

   she needs to get bonded, then advertise and check out other buyers see what they charge..do a little advertising..and she is on her way….good luck.
