Is dementia contagious?

Seeking the truth asked:

I am a young person (24), but I spent part of last year caring for my bf’s elderly grandma, who has dementia. Ever since I have been in this relationship and performed this elder care, I have had memory problems myself. I can’t remember things that he’s told me a few days ago. I forget where I left certain items. It’s like I’m not living in the world of people.

I was wondering if I may have caught dementia from the grandma, or if there are other causes. I am a grad student, so I’m under a lot of stress. It’s like I am too busy to process things. Also, I’ve had a conflicted relationship with my bf, so I wonder if the stress from that might cause me to forget things. I read a story about a girl who struggled with odd physical symptoms, such as recurring bouts of nausea, but they cleared up after she broke up with her bf. I was just wondering if I was only stressed out, or if I really have dementia, or if the forgetfulness is a warning sign to leave.
