I imagine it would simialr to a lunch menu for adults in general, with certain dietary considerations, such as foods with low sodium, foods for diabetics, and foods for people who have difficulty chewing (softer foods). Also, ask them what they like to eat! Hope that helps.

    Are you kidding!!!
Do people come on here for serious answers or they weren’t hugged enough as a child?!I see knuckle heads asking what jeans does Britney wear, and what should I have for breakfast?

Um heart-clogging bacon burgers with a side or heart-clogging bacon grease a Viagra and a side of your last will. Get real if you want a serious answer and your not a pathetic needy teenager with a face like pepperoni pizza; take a visit to a nutritionist or visit the library and do research!

So much to concider with people of age. You have to address all health issues when preparing a food menu for the elderly.

Typically diabetics and heart disease has unforuantaely befallen most of the elderly. So certain foods containing sugars, potassium , salts, processed meats, bread and some fruits can not be tolerated by diabetics and heart patients.

My Mother was all of the above so I learned many foods she could and could not have.

But I would begin with anything vegetable based, whole meats (as close to killing the cow as you can get) no deli meats no matter how nutritious Boars Head says it is? So cold-cuts are OFF the menu.

Do tomatoes in every fashion you can think of. Use veggie pasta and cover it with stewed tomatoes. Make tomato sandwiches, but use lite mayonaise ( BAMA brand tastes best) and whole grain breads and black pepper but never salt. (salt substitute for those that are used to salt, Mrs Dash comes in many flavors)

BLT is a perfect lunch time treat and bacon is allowed in moderation and turkey bacon may seem logical and some dieticians prefer it but regular bacon offers the best taste and really is less processed than turkey bacon.

Soup and sandwiches seem to make old folks feel like they are eating a normal meal. So make a home made veggie soup with all the best veggies. (Frozen or fresh is better than canned due to salt and preservatives. And you can add stew meat as long as it is RAW chunk meat.

Make veggie trays and add interesting dips like spinish dip, garlic and onion dip (chose the low fat as opossed to NO FAT due to the fat exchange)

You can make these dips yourself with low fat sour cream and adding fresh garlic (from the jar) and cut green onion and fresh or frozen spinish.

Chicken salad is a favorite but be sure to pull your own chicken and add the Bama mayo, cerlery, Mrs Dash garlic/lemon salt or squeeze a lemon.

Tuna salad may be Ok for some but the iodine may complicate some systems. Again use the Bama.

I have a wonderful secret family recipe I have used for over 30 years at all our family gatherings and no one is the wiser for how I make it. It is a fabulous filling desert that everyone loves.

You can use several fruits to compliment this desert:

    You will need:

A big tub of cool whip or a generic brand works just fine as long as you chose the sugar free version.

A box of graham crackers (graham crackers are low enough in sugar)

A large box of sugar free INSTANT vanilla pudding.

Some 2% milk, you will use 3 cups.

A 16 oz can of pie filling, cherry, strawberry, lemon or blueberry, but buy lite so the sugar is low.

Have your cool whip unthawed, frozen is too hard to work with.

Prepare the vanilla pudding according to the directions.

Mix the cool whip with the pudding, set it aside.

In a deep dish ( glass/aluminum) place a layer of gramham crackers. Rotate layers of crackers and pudding mix to maybe 4 layers. Crackers/pudding/crackers/pudding.

Then pour and spread the entire can of pie filling over the top.

Allow to chill until the crackers are soft.

We call it Delite Cherry Delite, Blueberry Delite……………..

They eat it up like there is no tomorrow!

And NOBODY in my family knows that it is sugar/fat free!

Even my sugar/salt/fat eating parents never knew!

    I hope this helps……….

I am a chef at a assisted living community ,and elderly people eat what we eat ,just remeber to balance the meal ,know your calorie content, and small portions, and biggest point is all meats must be very tender, they dont have teeth ( most of them) or they have dentures, and very sensitive gums,so they can have fried chicken, ribs (very tender) , they like turkey, ham, sweet potatoes
many foods we eat just make the food tender and soft.and dont forget the dessert alot of jello, they are not crazy abour chocolate
but love ice cream ,oh yes alot of them are diebetic,so no sugar added.
