How old are today’s Senior Citizens?
Ariel 128 asked:
In the US, you get social security at 65, but now at cafes, theaters, and different places, the senior rate starts at all different ages. When do you start being a Senior Citizen?

Well this one just turned 61. You start when your mind tells you. Most places recognize age 60 as senior.

In my area, senior discounts start at 55yrs.And some things are not considered senior until your 60, then there are other things that you can’t get until your 65yrs.old.

I started being a senior at 70, this year.
I got senior benefits at 62 and joined AARP
at 55. However within myself it was 70.

i like to judge seniority by any certain milestone. i was a senior upon leaving my junior class in high school and college. i was a senior adviser on a job and, at some golf course, i get to pay a senior rate. i don’t feel like a senior, at all. and i hope, when i draw social security, i don’t feel like a senior. and, if i ever go to the restaurant and they give me a senior discount, its because they have labeled me such and not because i feel like i’m so old that i am entitled. i guess i’d say that once you’ve hit 70, you have all the senior bases covered. of course, i hope being a senior is not the same as feeling like a senior. and if it does, i hope that doesn’t happen until 85 or so. in the meantime, accept the senior rate and dont look a gift horse in the mouth.

When considering benefits you qualify as a senior as early as possible and when accepting limitations you qualify as late as possible. I ain’t as dumb as I look.

Depending on where you live, you have Senior Citizen discounts for a lot of things. When it comes to Social Security benefits, you still have to be 65. They want to make it 67. Makes me a little glad I retired 5 years ago.

At the grocery store, we get a discount after age 55, at the movies 62. So I have been a senior citizen for 9 years now.

It varies a lot. There are places where 55 is considered a senior citizen and others are 60, some are 65. I took my mom to a senior citizens club when I was 45 and they wanted me to join so they would have more members.

I think 50 is such a benchmark that regardless how great you might look or how in shape you might be, you’ve entered your middle-age, which at 62 would mean living to 124, so I think of 50 as a senior.

No set age anymore. Businesses give discounts from age 50 on up. You can get Social Security in the US at age 62.

I started getting a few senior discounts at 60. I really like the ones in restaurants because the portions are smaller and I have always been a small eater.
