Has anyone ever heard of Barack Obama before he became a candidate for president?

I was just wondering if anyone had heard of him before the candidacy? I haven’t, but then politics are not a big point in my life. I tend to think that the politicians are going to do what they want no matter what the public wants. I know that Mr. Obama was born in the states because he must to be a candidate but he doesn’t reply to questions that are vital to the little people like me. Such as Health care, elder care, prescription coverage, homeless families, poor families that are in a house but nothing else, abuse of spouses and children and there are so many more issues. I am sort of afraid of him being elected if we don’t know him or anything about him. Does anyone else feel this way?
