As Senior Citizens, have you ever considered continuing employment outside the home for a paycheck?

RT 66 asked:

Do you ever miss that little piece of paper that means you’ve earned cash for your services?

I would if I could because I don’t have a job quite a while and I’m urged to have a chance to make some money.

I’m still employed full time - 7 years away from retirement. I hope when I am retired I will have the energy and financial stability to work outside the home part time on a volunteer basis - just to keep myself active.

Never have missed it, because I have never stopped working FT [age 67] and will continue to work for as long as I am able.

I like being ‘involved’ and continuiing to work and can’t see ‘retiring’..works for me :-)

    Not outside the home.
My husband tells me my job is at home. But he says it in a loving way. He always reminds me how important what I do at home supports him in the job he does outside of the home. He really makes me feel special that way even though I don’t think I do that much.
I’ll take his loving words over that paycheck any day.

I try not to ever drink that much. I’ve noticed that I have a headache when I do.

Nah. I did that for long enough. I now have my own Social Security payment and don’t have to depend on asking hubby for money. It’s not huge, but it covers my few bills, and gives me a bit of spending cash.

I’d just as soon stay retired. I can go out when I want, sleep late if I choose. Do some housework or not, as I choose. And on those rainy or snowstormy days? I can sit at home, cup of coffee in hand, and watch the weather from my own window.

I have cut back to part time because I love to work and am perfectly able, plus I do need that piece of paper.

No as I have worked hard and long enough. My father did not get to enjoy his retirement years because he died the year he was to retire. He had made plans of things he wanted to do, not just sit around but still be active. It never happened. Me, I enjoy being retired and don’t miss that paycheck. I never make plans, I just do it.
